For Those Who Know How, the Internet can be a Gateway to the Life they Dream of
Once upon a time, I worked in a cubicle in one of the largest corporations in New Zealand. I was paid well. I had a job that was moderately challenging at times, gave me a great deal of freedom, but was ultimately not fulfilling.
That last part haunted me. I knew that there were hundreds, probably thousands, of people who would love to have the job I had. I felt guilty that I wasn’t satisfied with this job.
I Spent Loads on Internet Courses…
While I worked at this job I spent a lot of time learning about anything new on the internet. Many of these things were incorporated into my work, but many things were for my personal development. I wanted to get out and set up on my own. Over the period I was in Telecom I spent over $70,000 on courses, online tools, seminars & webinars to try and find something more satisfying that I could spend my life doing.
I tried many things. None of them resonated with me or with the people I was trying to engage with. I started to feel I was the perfect mark for these people who sold stuff online. I did learn though. I became so knowledgeable that many of my colleagues would routinely ask my opinion on their projects, both at work or on the side.
Then I Got the News My Colleagues All Dreaded
I was made redundant. “Great!” I thought. Now I have the incentive to make things happen. I will use all this knowledge I have gained and find my calling in life where I can truly help people and make a wonderful living.
It didn’t happen.
Instead I ended up needing a job but resisting going back to the same situation. I found some part time work but the bills continued to mount up. Things got pretty desperate in the end. Before I finally took on a sales role for a brand new company.
That is when I discovered the secret that had been eluding me.
Actually it had been in front of me the whole time, but I had not seen it in my desperation.
The secret is what I now call Personal Positioning.
It is simply showcasing your skills, talents, passions and philosophies, both online and in other venues that you can leverage. Instead of pushing what I want to do onto people, or guessing what they may want, I now share what I love to do, what I am passionate about and what I do well. And I allow people to come to me if they want help.
Life feels far better now than it did when I was working in my cubicle!
This website is a part of my Personal Positioning. To help others to refine, and benefit from their own Personal Positioning I am putting together a free 3 part video series. It isn’t completed yet, but if you put your name and email address into the box below, I will let you know as soon as it is.
